Philippines: Officials deny Sara Duterte requested meeting with Marcos

Defense spokesperson Michael Poa has denied reports claiming that Vice President Sara Duterte requested a private meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., labeling the claims as ‘fake news.’ The denial follows circulating social media reports suggesting the Vice President sought a conversation with the President amidst her ongoing impeachment trial.

While the Palace had previously stated there was no confirmation of such a request, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro noted that President Marcos remains open to meeting with individuals if a reason is presented. The rumors surfaced during the 17th day of Duterte’s impeachment proceedings, amid political speculation that she might seek an intercession to end the trial.
