Philippines President Marcos says he will not interfere in cousin Romualdez flood scandal probe

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. affirmed that he will not intervene in the Office of the Ombudsman's investigation of his cousin, former Speaker and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez, over a multibillion‑peso flood‑control project scandal. Palace press officer Claire Castro told reporters that the president will accept the outcome of any investigation and that due process must guide the inquiry. Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said the probe is close to conclusion, and Romualdez’s camp has indicated he is prepared to face charges if filed. The administration also rejected criticism that it is practising selective prosecution, emphasizing that evidence, not accusations, should determine any legal action.
