Philippines proposes P7.2 trillion national budget for 2027

The Philippine government has proposed a P7.2 trillion national budget for 2027, representing a 6 percent increase from the current year and approximately 21.7 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.

Despite the overall increase, funding for social services is projected to decrease. The Department of Education is set to receive P975 billion, a 4 percent reduction, with significant cuts to school building construction and feeding programs. The Department of Health faces an 11 percent budget cut, largely due to a 53 percent reduction in medical assistance for indigent patients.

Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development's budget is expected to drop by 11 percent, driven by a 47 percent reduction in crisis assistance programs. PhilHealth is also slated for a 42 percent reduction in budgetary support.
