Philippines rice assistance programs reach thousands in Kalinga and Ilocos Norte

Government rice distribution programs are providing food assistance to thousands of families across the Philippine provinces of Kalinga and Ilocos Norte to mitigate the impact of rising food costs.

In Kalinga, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has distributed 185.82 metric tons of rice to 18,582 beneficiaries as of September 21, 2026. This represents 71 percent of the program's target. The initiative, funded by a ₱17 million Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) under the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program, targets indigent individuals, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and solo parents. The distribution is expected to continue through November 2026.

In Ilocos Norte, approximately 37,500 families are benefiting from the third cycle of a government rice distribution program. Led by Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, the latest round of assistance has reached municipalities including San Nicolas, Batac City, Paoay, Badoc, and Pinili. The program aims to provide sustained relief to vulnerable sectors and households facing increased living expenses.
