Philippines solar power adoption surges amid rising energy costs

The Philippines is experiencing a surge in solar power adoption as rising electricity costs, driven by global energy market volatility, push homeowners toward renewable energy. High electricity prices in the country, which were already among the highest in Southeast Asia, have increased following geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

According to the energy think tank Ember, rooftop solar panel installations in the Philippines have nearly doubled since early 2025. Trade data from China indicates that between March and May, the Philippines became the largest single overseas market for solar panel imports, with total imports reaching $407 million during that period.

Local suppliers are struggling to meet the sudden demand. Lexus Grepo, CEO of Solarmaxx, reported a 30-day wait for installations due to shipment delays, noting that project volumes in March were nearly triple the typical monthly clientele.
