Philippines studies Chinese smart farming to modernize agriculture

The Philippine Department of Agriculture is studying smart farming technologies in China to modernize domestic production and bridge technological gaps. Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. led a delegation to the Zhejiang Huihong Fruit and Vegetable Farm in Zhejiang province to examine digital systems used for crop monitoring and farm management.

During the visit, officials reviewed a smart agriculture data platform provided by Zhejiang Huihong Biotechnology Co. Ltd. This platform integrates real-time production data with environmental monitoring and the management of water and fertilizer. The delegation also inspected greenhouses and precision management techniques used in fruit and vegetable cultivation.

Secretary Tiu Laurel emphasized the need to identify technologies that can be adapted to Philippine conditions, noting that the country should not hesitate to adopt successful international approaches. Discussions between Philippine officials and farm representatives focused on potential cooperation in agricultural technology, quality control, and ecological planting models, with an emphasis on technology transfer and industry partnerships.
