Philippines' Visayas grid under yellow alert as Mindanao reports stable supply

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines placed the Visayas grid on a yellow alert from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday after several power plants remained unavailable, including Units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. and the Palm Concepcion Power Corp. Eleven plants are on forced outage this month, with a total loss of 971.7 MW, leaving available capacity at about 2,548 MW against a projected demand of 2,334 MW.

In contrast, the Department of Energy’s Mindanao Field Office reported that the Mindanao grid maintained a stable and reliable electricity supply throughout the first half of July. Year‑to‑date peak demand reached 2,775 MW, while average actual demand was 2,429 MW and average available capacity stood at 3,343 MW, giving an average gross reserve of 913 MW. Weekly data from June 29 to July 5 show daily peak demand between 2,302 MW and 2,507 MW, with available capacity consistently above 3,160 MW and gross reserves ranging from 716 MW to 981 MW.
