Cincinnati Reds beat Cubs 4-0 as Hunter Greene tallies 12 strikeouts

Hunter Greene returned from elbow surgery to deliver a dominant performance for the Cincinnati Reds, striking out 12 batters and allowing just three hits over seven shutout innings. The Reds secured a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Great American Ball Park.

Elly De La Cruz opened the fifth inning with a solo home run and later added a triple, while JJ Bleday homered in the eighth. Spencer Steer contributed three hits, and the Reds’ bullpen closed out the win with Emilio Pagán earning his eighth save. The triumph moved Cincinnati to 43‑50 on the season and set up the final two games of the series before the All‑Star break.

Chicago managed 16 strikeouts but failed to record a run, marking their ninth shutout loss of the year. The Padres’ pitching staff, including starter Shota Imanaga, was unable to contain the Reds’ offense, and the Cubs will turn to right‑hander Javier Assad for the next start.
