Phishing scams targeting Italian citizens via SMS
Authorities in Italy are warning of multiple SMS-based phishing campaigns designed to steal personal and financial information.
One scam impersonates the parking service EasyPark, sending messages that claim a parking payment was missed. These messages include links to fraudulent websites that mimic official platforms to trick users into entering credit card details. Reports of this activity have been noted in the Marche region.
Another fraudulent scheme targets healthcare users by impersonating the Centro Unico di Prenotazione (CUP). These messages claim there is urgent information regarding medical appointments or exams, prompting recipients to call specific numbers, such as 89347763. This tactic aims to trigger high telephone charges through premium-rate services.
Citizens are advised not to click on suspicious links or call numbers provided in unsolicited texts. Instead, users should verify information through official apps, websites, or direct contact with their healthcare provider or bank.
