Vietnam education sector undergoes digital and structural shifts

Vietnam is undergoing various shifts in its educational and professional landscape. In the STEM sector, the PETROVIETNAM STEM INNOVATION program has established 108 practice rooms across 34 provinces, with 91 rooms registered in the MIT FabLab system, positioning Vietnam as a leading FabLab hub in Asia.

Digital transformation is also expanding within regional education, such as in Hung Yen, where AI and digital data are being used to modernize management and teaching. Similarly, a national workshop in Ho Chi Minh City highlighted the need to integrate digital technology and AI into cultural and arts education to better connect students with the cultural industry.

However, challenges remain in vocational and higher education. Concerns have been raised regarding the gap between academic training and labor market needs, with reports of students in vocational programs being used as cheap manual labor rather than receiving specialized training. In higher education, issues such as graduates working in unrelated fields and universities using fraudulent credentials to meet accreditation standards have been identified as significant causes of training waste.
