Tracing its history back to 1923, the company was founded by Hugo Knümann in Essen as the ‘Phönix Elektro- und Industrie-Bedarfsgesellschaft’. Early innovations included trolley wire clamps for trams and the development of the series terminal block, which improved upon inflexible ceramic blocks to provide more maintainable electrical connections.
