Phoenix faces extreme heat wave as temperatures exceed 110 degrees

Phoenix, Arizona, is experiencing an extreme heat wave driven by a strong heat dome, placing the city on track for its third-hottest summer on record. Temperatures in the Phoenix metro area have consistently reached or exceeded 110 degrees, with an extreme heat warning in effect through Friday evening.

Amid these conditions, emergency responders conducted a helicopter hoist extraction to rescue a hiker suffering from heat exhaustion on the Echo Canyon Trail. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Division and the Phoenix Fire Department coordinated the time-sensitive rescue due to the hiker's remote location and the dangerous temperatures. The individual was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.

The National Weather Service has cautioned that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during such events, noting that overexposure can lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and heat stroke.
