Phoenix Mercury face Dallas Wings amid WNBA roster expansion

The Phoenix Mercury are scheduled to face the Dallas Wings on September 19, 2026, at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. The Wings enter the matchup with a 25-16 record and a five-game winning streak, while the Mercury hold a 15-26 record.

Following the implementation of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the 2026 WNBA season, teams are now required to maintain a minimum 12-player roster, with two additional developmental spots that do not count against the salary cap. The Phoenix Mercury have utilized these spots to provide increased playing time for developmental players like Kara Dunn and Shay Ciezki.

Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts stated that providing minutes to these players is an intentional strategy to foster improvement within the organization, noting that the expanded roster allows the team to keep more young talent around for development.
