Phoenix Mercury retire Diana Taurasi’s No. 3 jersey

The Phoenix Mercury officially retired Diana Taurasi’s No. 3 jersey during a Ring of Honor ceremony at the Mortgage Matchup Center on August 16, 2026. Taurasi, the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer with 10,646 points, was honored for her 20-season career, which included three championships and multiple MVP awards.

During her halftime speech, Taurasi reflected on her career and her family's migration from Argentina, stating, “Tonight feels like the end and the beginning of so many things in my life.” The ceremony also featured a custom Nike sneaker designed by Vick Almighty, incorporating elements from Kobe Bryant and LeBron James’ signature lines.

Despite the celebrations, the Mercury lost their game to the Portland Fire with a final score of 88-85. Carla Leite led the Fire with 23 points, including a late scoring run that secured the victory for the expansion team.
