Phoenix police arrest two suspects in $93,000 theft from former MLB player
Phoenix police have arrested two men, Daniel Thompson and Michael Hummel, in connection with a storage unit burglary that resulted in the theft of nearly $93,000 worth of property belonging to former Major League Baseball outfielder Daniel Johnson.
The theft occurred on September 27 at a storage facility near 24th Street and Campbell Avenue. The suspects reportedly engaged in a serial lock-cutting scheme, targeting multiple units. The stolen items included collector sneakers, high-end purses, electronics, and MLB gear. Johnson noted that some of the stolen apparel was intended for his God Family Ball Foundation, a charity that distributes items to children.
The investigation reached a breakthrough after authorities released surveillance images to the public. The suspects were identified when an employee at a local pawn shop recognized them from a police social media flyer while they were attempting to sell a pair of stolen collector shoes. A subsequent search warrant led to the recovery of various items marked with the victim’s name.
