Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams sidelined by shoulder surgery

Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams is expected to miss a significant portion of the upcoming season following surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The injury occurred during an off-season training session. While the team has not provided a specific return date, medical experts suggest a recovery timeline of at least five months.

Williams, 24, recently signed a three-year, $38 million contract with the Suns. He is coming off a career-best 2025-2026 season where he appeared in 60 games, averaging 11.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

The injury forces a major shift in the Suns' starting lineup. Potential replacements for the center position include Oso Ighodaro, who is expected to receive playing time due to his experience and the trust of coach Jordan Ott, or rookie Khaman Maluach.
