Phone scams targeting consumers in Spain and Mexico

Spanish consumer agencies have warned that callers impersonating the mobile operator Movistar are using urgent messages about SIM blockages or service issues to obtain personal data, verification codes and bank details. Victims are urged to hang up, avoid sharing any codes and contact official channels only.

In the Mexican state of Morelos, authorities issued an alert about extortion calls that claim the recipient has won a prize or needs to pay a tax to receive a reward. Scammers demand immediate deposits or transfers, often using the names of well‑known brands or government bodies. The warning advises people to stay calm, end the call, never send money, protect personal information and report incidents to the emergency line 089.
