PhonePe and DPCGC partner to boost OTT regulatory compliance

PhonePe and the Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve regulatory compliance within the over-the-top (OTT) ecosystem. The DPCGC operates as a self-regulatory body under the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).

The partnership focuses on facilitating seamless self-regulatory organisation (SRO) certification for merchants and increasing awareness of regulatory requirements. Under Indian IT Rules, 2021, OTT platforms and Publishers of Online Curated Content (OCCPs) are required to be members of a recognized SRO for grievance redressal.

PhonePe has implemented this regulatory requirement as a mandatory prerequisite for merchants onboarding onto its payment gateway. The joint initiative aims to educate both existing and prospective merchants to ensure adherence to the established Code of Ethics.
