Phosgo Go 5 Ultra introduces solar-integrated e-bike concept

The Phosgo Go 5 Ultra is an experimental electric bicycle that features solar panels integrated directly into its wheels to facilitate off-grid, self-charging capabilities. While the concept aims to provide greater autonomy for cyclists, early prototype testing has identified several technical challenges.

Key issues noted include significant wind drag and sensitivity to side winds caused by the solid one-piece solar wheels, as well as high power drain while the bike is idle. Additionally, testers noted concerns regarding pre-production build quality.

Despite these hurdles, the bike features a mid-drive motor, a comfortable frame geometry, and a generous battery capacity. The official MSRP is set at $5,999, though promotional pricing via Indiegogo and the official Phosgo website can lower the entry price to $2,199.
