Photographer Masashi Asada to hold exhibition in Kanagawa
Photographer Masashi Asada will hold a photo exhibition titled ‘Kanagawa Potogarahee’ at the Hakone Open-Air Museum. The project, organized by the Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, aims to capture the charm of various municipalities within Kanagawa Prefecture using a retro aesthetic inspired by ‘Yokohama Shashin’—hand-colored landscape and genre photographs popular during the Meiji era.
The exhibition will feature photographs from four specific towns: Kaisei, Manazuru, Nakai, and Hakone. These works will be displayed at the ‘Maruta Hiroba Kitoki’ area of the Hakone Open-Air Museum from January 16 to March 22, 2027.
Asada, known for his work on the ‘Asada Family’ series and the film ‘Asada!’ starring Kazunari Ninomiya, seeks to emulate the passion of early photographers. The project is part of a broader initiative by Kanagawa Kenmin Hall to bring arts and culture to all 33 municipalities in the prefecture while its main hall is closed.
