Photography bicentenary celebrations announced
Events and exhibitions are being organized to celebrate the bicentenary of the invention of photography, credited to Nicéphore Niépce, whose earliest known photograph dates back to 1826.
A series of conferences titled ‘Conférences du jeudi’ will run from October 15 to May 13, 2027, at the Théâtre or Hôtel de Ville. The program includes topics such as aerial photography in archaeology, wildlife photography, and the beginnings of astrophotography. This cycle is a collaborative effort involving the Musée de Saint-Dizier, the Archives départementales, and the association Archéolonna.
Additionally, a photographic journey focusing on the theme of the rural world will be held from October 10, 2026, to March 21, 2027. This retrospective exhibition features 16 photographers using various mediums, ranging from traditional film to digital and smartphones, to capture the impact of human activity on landscapes and peasant work life.
