Photography exhibitions highlight Ecuadorian heritage and coffee culture

In Ecuador, photography is being used to highlight both regional agricultural traditions and national historical heritage. In Loja, artist Fabricio Nicolás Ochoa Galindo has launched ‘El Origen’, a photographic exhibition documenting the lives of coffee-growing families in sectors such as Quilanga and Malacatos. The project captures the entire process from cultivation to harvest, aiming to bring visibility to the local workers behind the internationally recognized coffee industry.

Meanwhile, in Guayaquil, the Museo Nacional del Cacao hosted a presentation titled ‘The Precursors of Photography in Guayaquil’. The event highlighted the city’s role as a pioneer in Ecuadorian photography, noting that Guayaquil recorded its first photographic image via daguerreotype in 1841. The session also recognized 29 contemporary photographers for their contributions to documenting the city’s daily life through municipal initiatives.
