Photography exhibitions in Berlin and Tübingen showcase iconic works

Major photography exhibitions are opening in Germany, showcasing significant works in street and portrait photography.

In Berlin, f3 – freiraum für fotografie is hosting “Die Magie der Straße” (The Magic of the Street) from September 17 to November 29, 2026. The exhibition features iconic street photographers including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, William Klein, and Steve McCurry, alongside works from younger photographers such as Jacob Aue Sobol and Matt Stuart. The collection highlights the genre's ability to document urban life and social change, facilitated historically by the invention of portable cameras like the Leica.

In Tübingen, the Neues Kunstmuseum is presenting “ICONS,” an exhibition running until October 4, 2026. This showcase features nearly five decades of work by Steve McCurry. The exhibition includes his world-renowned 1984 portrait of Sharbat Gula, the Afghan girl whose image became a global symbol of her nation's struggles. McCurry’s work spans various regions, including India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet.
