Photography exhibitions open in Dominican Republic and Peru
In the Dominican Republic, the Photoimagen 2026 festival has inaugurated the exhibition ‘El fotógrafo de la 40, la imagen como memoria’. Featuring photographers Erika Santelises and Orlando Barría, the showcase explores the use and re-signification of images through historical archives. The work includes photographs related to the La 40 prison, produced during a period of state surveillance and violence, aiming to use visual memory to address contemporary questions about how bodies are recorded and remembered.
Meanwhile, in Trujillo, Peru, the Third Trujillo Photography Salon 2026 is underway. Organized by Base Foto, the event features over 40 photographers and 200 images distributed across various cultural venues, including the Alianza Francesa and the Museo de Juguete. This edition expands its scope to include South American perspectives, utilizing diverse styles ranging from realism to surrealism to explore social, political, and aesthetic themes.
