Photometria International Photography Festival returns to Ioannina

The 18th Photometria International Photography Festival returns to Ioannina, Greece, running from September 26 to November 29. This year’s edition features 14 individual and group exhibitions spread across 10 different venues throughout the city.

The festival’s central theme is ‘Coming of Age (18+)’, exploring transitions, identity, and social shifts. The program includes lectures, documentary screenings, book presentations, and musical performances. Notably, Magnum photographer Alec Soth has been selected to curate the Photometria Awards 2026.

A significant highlight is the establishment of a permanent exhibition at the Photometria Photography Center dedicated to the renowned photographer Kostas Balafas. Titled ‘In the Thread of Time: People and Landscapes of the Epirus Land’, the exhibit features digitized original prints documenting life in Ioannina and the pastoral landscapes of Epirus.

Other featured works include Elli Papadimitriou’s ‘The Raw Essence of Things’ at the Museum of Silversmithing, which captures rural life in Epirus and Macedonia, and Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen’s documentation of working-class life in Newcastle at the Ioannina Municipal Art Gallery.
