Phu Quoc APEC Convention Centre construction advances
Construction of the APEC Convention Centre and multipurpose theatre in Phu Quoc is progressing toward its goal of hosting the 2027 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. The project, an approximately $835 million public-private partnership led by Sun Group, has completed between 97% and 98% of its reinforced concrete structures.
Recent milestones include the installation of the final 125-ton steel truss using two heavy-duty cranes weighing 650 and 800 tons. The complex will feature a convention and exhibition centre capable of hosting 6,500 people, a 4,000-seat multipurpose theatre, and a large park.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc recently inspected the site, noting that progress meets requirements while urging authorities to resolve remaining obstacles regarding land, investment mechanisms, and material supplies. The project aims to complete its exterior by October 2026, with full interior installation and equipment setup scheduled for completion by March 30, 2027.
