Phu Quoc upgrades DT975 corridor with LRT for APEC 2027

Infrastructure development is accelerating on Phu Quoc Island to prepare for the APEC 2027 summit. A major component of this effort is the upgrade of the DT975 corridor, which will serve as a multimodal transport axis connecting Phu Quoc International Airport to the APEC Conference Centre.

The project features a 62-meter wide cross-section including 10 motor vehicle lanes and an integrated Light Rail Transit (LRT) system located in the central median. The LRT line spans approximately 17.59 km, consisting of 14.81 km at ground level, 0.78 km on elevated structures, and 2 km underground through the APEC core area. The route will include six stations, each designed with architectural themes inspired by different Vietnamese regions, such as the Northwest, Hanoi's Old Quarter, Hue, the Central Highlands, and Saigon.

Additionally, the project includes the 3-kilometer APEC Boulevard, a ceremonial avenue leading to the conference and exhibition complex. Construction is proceeding with multiple shifts to meet deadlines; as of early September 2026, technical trenches are approximately 65% complete, while drainage and road foundation work are near 50%.
