Phu Quoc accelerates infrastructure projects for APEC 2027

Phu Quoc is accelerating major infrastructure projects to prepare for the APEC 2027 summit. Key developments include the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport, a 1,050-hectare project designed to handle 20-24 million passengers annually by 2030.

As of September 2026, the main terminal's concrete structure and finishing work are approximately 95% complete, with the first phase expected to begin operations in April 2027. A new VIP terminal, inspired by the sea eagle, is also under construction to accommodate heads of state.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has proposed adjustments to the airport's master plan through 2030 and 2050. These updates include expanding aircraft parking stands, upgrading taxiways, and enhancing precision approach lighting systems to meet international standards.

Additional transport upgrades include the expansion of the DT975 road into a 10-lane highway integrated with a 17.59 km light rail transit (LRT) system, which aims to connect the airport to the APEC Convention Center.
