Phu Quoc International Airport expansion accelerates for APEC 2027

Construction is accelerating at Phu Quoc International Airport to prepare for the APEC 2027 Economic Leaders’ Week. The expansion project, managed by Sun Group, is entering a critical phase despite recent heavy rains and strong sea winds in the region.

Work is currently focused on Passenger Terminal 2, which features a massive steel roof structure. The project involves over 51,000 tons of steel, with approximately 33,000 tons dedicated to the roof and its wings. As of late September, the concrete structure of the main terminal has reached 95% completion, and the main steel roof structure is 100% finished. Crews are currently installing the glass facade to complete the terminal's modern appearance.

The Ministry of Construction has approved adjusted detailed planning for the airport for the 2021-2030 period. These adjustments include enhancing airfield facilities, technical infrastructure, and security services. Planned improvements include extending parallel taxiways, expanding aircraft parking capacity to accommodate approximately 87 positions across different aprons, and upgrading internal road systems and drainage to meet international security and safety requirements for APEC 2027.
