Phu Quoc light rail project enters critical rail installation phase
Construction is accelerating on Vietnam’s first light rail transit (LRT) project on Phu Quoc Island. The project, invested by Sun Group under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, has an estimated total investment of 9,000 billion VND.
A consortium including Vietnam Railways (VNR) and China Railway Construction Corporation 16 Group (CRCC16) has recently commenced the tender for the supply, construction, and installation of the rail system. The 17.59 km double-track line will utilize 1435mm gauge rails and will feature integrated infrastructure across elevated, ground-level, and underground segments.
To meet the deadline for the APEC 2027 summit, the project aims for completion by February 2027. Currently, the construction effort involves eight units with approximately 320 workers and 30 engineers stationed on-site to manage the rapid timeline and logistical challenges posed by the island's environment.
