Phu Tho authorities investigate Lap Thach 1 Primary School meal quality
Authorities in Phu Tho province are investigating reports regarding inadequate student meals at Lap Thach 1 Primary School. The investigation was triggered after images circulated on social media showing a boarding meal consisting only of white rice, soup, a small amount of peanut salt, and two pieces of fried meatballs.
Parents reported paying 19,000 VND per meal, in addition to daily boarding care fees and monthly staff fees. In response to the public outcry, Tran Duy Dong, Chairman of the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee, has ordered an inspection into the matter. Local commune leaders and the Department of Education and Training are also conducting reviews to clarify the situation.
The school principal stated that the images shared online actually depicted a meal from September 16, 2026. The school administration noted that they have opted to contract with local food providers and residents rather than external companies to minimize costs. The school maintains that they follow food safety regulations, including three-step inspection logs and food sample storage.
