Phu Tho Department of Health investigates child's death after surgery

The Phu Tho Department of Health has established an inspection team to investigate the death of an 8-year-old boy following an appendectomy at the Doan Hung Regional Medical Center.

The patient, L.G.H., was admitted on August 1 with symptoms of fever and abdominal pain. After being diagnosed with acute appendicitis, he underwent laparoscopic surgery. While emerging from anesthesia around 11:50 PM on August 1, the patient experienced a rapid drop in blood pressure, respiratory distress, and cyanosis. Medical staff suspected anaphylactic shock and acute pulmonary edema.

Despite emergency resuscitation efforts and subsequent transfer to the Phu Tho Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital on August 2, the child passed away. Le Hong Trung, Director of the Phu Tho Department of Health, stated that the department will review the entire clinical process—including diagnosis, surgery, and emergency care—and will coordinate with investigative authorities to ensure accountability if medical errors are found.
