Phu Tho explosion kills two during suspected illegal firework manufacturing

A major explosion occurred at approximately 13:10 on August 29 at a rental room in the Garden House boarding house area, located in Phuc Khai village, Binh Xuyen commune, Phu Tho province.

The blast resulted in at least two fatalities, identified as 18-year-old N. N. A. and 17-year-old V. H. L., both from Nghe An province. Three other young men sustained serious injuries and were transported to Vinh Phuc General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Physical damage from the explosion destroyed rental rooms 403, 404, and 405, and damaged the communal courtyard's corrugated iron roof. Following an investigation of the scene, authorities recovered firework casings, finished fireworks, and substances suspected to be sulfur and gunpowder.

Phu Tho Provincial Police have issued a preliminary assessment that the incident was caused by the illegal manufacturing of fireworks. An investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the materials and identify all responsible parties.
