Phu Tho province enhances tea industry value through tourism and OCOP
Phu Tho province is leveraging its tea industry to drive economic growth and poverty reduction. The province currently manages approximately 14,500 hectares of tea, with high-yield and high-quality varieties accounting for over 95% of the total area.
Various tea varieties are utilized for different markets: hybrid varieties like LDP1, LDP2, and PH1 are primarily processed into black tea for export to Asian and Middle Eastern markets, while specialty varieties such as Kim Tuyen, Bat Van Tien, and Oolong are used for green tea production. The industry supports over 1,000 production and processing facilities.
The province is also focusing on the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program to strengthen brand recognition. Out of 593 OCOP products in the province rated 3 stars or higher, nearly 100 are tea-based. This includes over 20 products with 4-star ratings and one 5-star product. Modern machinery is being integrated into harvesting processes to improve productivity and quality, helping local products reach supermarkets, commercial centers, and international markets.
