Phuket Court finalizes ruling in Daniel Sancho murder appeal
The Phuket Court of Appeals in Thailand has finalized its ruling regarding the appeals filed in the Daniel Sancho case. The court confirmed that the sentence is being sent to the Samui Provincial Court, which will be responsible for reading the verdict on a date yet to be determined.
Daniel Sancho, a Spanish national, was previously sentenced to life imprisonment for the premeditated murder of Colombian national Edwin Arrieta on the island of Koh Phangan on August 2, 2023.
The legal proceedings involve conflicting appeals: the family of Edwin Arrieta has requested that the sentence be increased to the death penalty, citing the strength of the evidence. Conversely, Sancho’s defense team is seeking a new trial or a new hearing to present additional witnesses, maintaining that the death was an accident occurring during a fight.
