Phuket murder: daughter-in-law decapitates mother-in-law
Police in Chalong, Phuket, Thailand responded to a domestic dispute on August 1 that ended in a gruesome murder. A 74‑year‑old woman identified only as Chantra was found dead with multiple stab wounds and her head removed after a heated argument with her 36‑year‑old daughter‑in‑law, Sriwan.
Officers arrived after neighbors reported the struggle, discovered the suspect hiding in a bathroom, and arrested her without resistance. Sriwan, who has a documented history of psychiatric treatment, has been charged with severe murder. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic teams conducting a full autopsy and crime‑scene analysis.
The victim’s son was traveling from Bangkok at the time and learned of the tragedy upon arrival at the provincial airport. Phuket provincial police commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum confirmed the charges and said the case will proceed through the legal system.
