Phyllida Law, British actress and mother of Emma Thompson, dies at 94

British actress Phyllida Law has died at the age of 94. Her manager, Jacky Leggo, confirmed that Law passed away peacefully at home on July 27, surrounded by her family.

Born in Glasgow in 1932, Law enjoyed an eight-decade career spanning theatre, television, and film. She was a versatile performer who appeared in notable productions such as ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, ‘The Winter Guest’, and ‘Emma’. She was also a familiar face on television series including ‘Midsomer Murders’, ‘Poirot’, and ‘Doc Martin’. In 2014, she was awarded an OBE for her services to drama and charitable causes.

Law was the mother of actresses Emma Thompson and Sophie Thompson, with whom she frequently shared the screen. She was married to actor Eric Thompson from 1957 until his death in 1982. She is survived by her two daughters and three grandchildren.
