Physical activity and wellness initiatives impact mental and biological health

Various health and wellness initiatives and studies highlight the connection between physical activity, mental resilience, and biological aging. In Essen, a specialized parkour training program scheduled for August 2026 aims to support the mental resilience of FLINTA* individuals by using physical obstacles as an analogy for overcoming life challenges.

Research into meditation shows positive effects on brain structure, including increased gray matter in regions responsible for memory and empathy, and improved emotional regulation. Meanwhile, scientists at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have developed a model to estimate biological age using four key metrics: chronological age, resting heart rate, waist circumference, and leisure activity levels. This model, based on the HUNT study, has been used by millions globally.

In Dresden, long-term participation in organized sports is demonstrating significant benefits for seniors. One participant, Annelies Lippmann, has maintained high mobility by joining weekly training sessions at age 83 and is approaching her 100th birthday with physical fitness comparable to someone much younger.
