Physical activity linked to improved sexual and mental health
Research highlights various physiological and psychological benefits of regular physical activity. Regarding sexual health, movement can improve libido and sexual capacity by enhancing blood circulation, regulating hormones, and strengthening pelvic floor muscles. Improved sleep quality and energy levels resulting from exercise also contribute to sexual well-being.
In terms of mental health, a study conducted by researchers at Ohio State University and Baylor University involving 3,931 adults in the United States found that consistent participation in organized sports during childhood and adolescence is linked to fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression in adulthood. Interestingly, the study noted that individuals who practiced sports in childhood but later quit reported poorer mental health outcomes than those who never participated in organized sports at all. Only 24% of participants continued organized sports until age 18, a group that demonstrated the best mental health profiles.
