Physical activity reduces type 2 diabetes risk, study finds
A study conducted by researchers at Leiden University Medical Center, involving nearly 88,000 adults from the UK Biobank, indicates that regular physical activity significantly reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The research found that individuals under the age of 63 who were less active faced more than double the relative risk of diabetes compared to highly active participants. Notably, physical activity performed between 1:00 PM and midnight was associated with a 10 percent lower relative risk compared to morning exercise.
In addition to lifestyle interventions, medical experts highlight the importance of recognizing subtle symptoms of diabetes, such as dry mouth or unusual breath odors caused by ketone production. Managing chronic inflammation is also a key factor in long-term health. Dietitian and physician Lauren Manaker suggests that starting the day with probiotic-rich foods, such as unsweetened kefir or yogurt smoothies, can support the gut microbiome and help regulate the body's inflammatory response.
