Physical AI and robotics emerge as key technological trends
The landscape of artificial intelligence is shifting from software-based chatbots and image generators toward 'physical AI.' This evolution involves integrating algorithms into robots, machinery, laboratory instruments, and everyday objects, allowing systems to perceive, reason, and act within the physical world.
Industry trends indicate significant growth in 'embodied AI,' with market estimates projected to rise from $4.4 billion in 2025 to over $23 billion by 2030. Major corporations are already preparing for this transition; for instance, Hyundai has announced plans to deploy Boston Dynamics’ Atlas humanoid robot in its automotive plants starting in 2028.
A Capgemini Research Institute report notes that 60% of executives believe physical AI will enable robotics in previously inaccessible sectors, partly driven by global labor shortages. In Italy, the National Research Council (CNR) is increasing public engagement with these scientific advancements through new television programming on ALMA TV–Marcopolo, which aims to showcase research in fields such as robotics and global challenges.
