Physical AI Gains Traction Across Global Manufacturing

A new report from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) surveyed C‑suite executives at 300 manufacturing firms in North America and Europe and found that physical AI – artificial intelligence that interacts directly with sensors, robotics and other physical processes – is moving from experimental pilots to mainstream deployment. No surveyed company plans to cut physical‑AI spending, while 26 % intend to increase investment, and 68 % are still in early or trial phases. The study highlights how manufacturers are using physical AI to improve safety, efficiency and workforce collaboration, often in partnership with Google Cloud, and notes the opening of TCS’s Physical AI Gemini Experience Center in Troy, Michigan.

Industrial robotics leaders such as Siemens and Trumpf are already demonstrating the technology on the factory floor. Edge‑computed machine‑learning models enable robotic arms to adjust paths in real time based on visual and tactile feedback, reducing downtime and speeding changeovers for custom batch production. Deployments require robust local compute, low‑latency networking and integration with existing safety PLC systems, underscoring the infrastructural shift needed for broader adoption.
