Jesús Maximiano Verduzco Soto surrenders in Sonora following medical malpractice investigation

Jesús Maximiano Verduzco Soto, a homeopathic doctor, surrendered to authorities in Hermosillo, Sonora, after being a fugitive for approximately six months. He is accused of involuntary manslaughter due to medical malpractice involving the administration of vitaminized intravenous solutions.

Investigations by the Sonora Prosecutor's Office revealed that these solutions were contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms, leading to the deaths of at least eight people and causing health complications for at least 12 others. Authorities noted that the medical treatments were administered without proper hygiene or sterilization protocols.

Verduzco Soto's surrender followed a financial and operational siege by state prosecutors, which included the freezing of his bank accounts and the seizure of assets, including a fleet of 16 vehicles and various properties. The doctor, who reportedly suffers from a recent amputation due to health issues developed while in hiding, has been transferred to the Hermosillo Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso) to await judicial proceedings.
