Ivo Šlaus, prominent Croatian physicist and academic, dies at 95
Croatian physicist and academic Ivo Šlaus has passed away in Zagreb at the age of 95. The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) confirmed his death, noting his significant contributions to science and public life.
Šlaus was a prominent figure in nuclear, particle, and medical physics, having published 411 scientific papers and six monographs. His work included researching nuclear interactions and developing neutron radiotherapy. He served as a professor at the University of Zagreb and worked at the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
Beyond his scientific achievements, Šlaus was active in politics and social movements. He served as a member of the Croatian Parliament for the SDP between 2000 and 2003 and co-founded the Croatian Movement for Democracy and Social Justice. He also held leadership roles in international organizations, including serving as president of the World Academy of Sciences (WAAS) from 2011 to 2013.
