Physiotherapy support for transgender individuals undergoing hormone therapy
A research thesis from the Hochschule Campus Wien examines the role of physiotherapy in supporting transgender individuals undergoing feminizing hormone therapy (FHT). The study addresses a lack of research regarding how physiotherapy can assist with the physical and psychosocial changes associated with hormone therapy.
Through qualitative interviews and literature reviews, the research highlights that the experience of FHT involves a complex interplay of physical, psychosocial, and structural factors. The study also notes that current physiotherapy curricula lack content regarding trans-inclusive care, even as transgender individuals face discrimination within the healthcare system.
