Pi Network targets October 16 Mainnet upgrade and stablecoin exploration
Pi Network is preparing for a Mainnet upgrade to Protocol 28, targeted for October 16. This technical update is designed to improve how the network manages transaction data delays, allows developers to update groups of smart contracts simultaneously, and provides a more secure method for modifying stored application data.
In addition to the technical upgrade, the project is exploring the integration of stablecoins to support its ecosystem. Pi Network has entered an exploratory partnership with Open Standard, the company behind Open USD (OUSD), to investigate how stablecoins could facilitate predictable payments and settlements for merchants and businesses. The team indicated that stablecoins would serve as an additional payment option rather than a replacement for the native PI token.
While the Protocol 28 upgrade focuses on underlying infrastructure, the specific implementation details, reward rules, and timelines for OUSD integration have not yet been finalized or published.
