Pi Network token climbs after US inflation data, but daily unlocks pose risk

The Pi Network cryptocurrency rose sharply after U.S. consumer‑price data showed a 0.4% drop in June CPI, pushing the token up 17% to about $0.082. The rally was brief; a redesign of the Pi mining app later gave a modest 3.5% rise to $0.078, but the token remains down more than 20% on the week and about 42% over 30 days.

Pi Network faces a structural supply challenge: the network unlocks roughly 76 million tokens this month and an estimated 1.7 billion over the next year. Daily releases of about 4.25 million PI (worth roughly $330 k at current prices) add constant sell pressure. The upcoming Protocol v2.5 upgrade, scheduled for July 22, aims to add privacy‑preserving smart contracts but its impact on demand is yet to be seen. Until that upgrade attracts sufficient on‑chain activity, the large daily token issuance remains the dominant risk to the token’s price.
