PI-POP develops battery-free electric bicycles

The Orléans-based company PI-POP is commercializing a new generation of electric-assist bicycles that do not require traditional batteries. Instead of relying on stored energy from a plug-in source, the technology uses supercapacitors to capture and manage energy generated during the ride, such as from the cyclist's pedaling, and redistributes it when needed.

After ten years of development and industrialization, the company has deployed over 1,500 units. Following the success of its initial models, PI-POP is launching the Horizon, a lighter model priced under 2,000 euros, aimed at making battery-free electric assistance more accessible to a broader audience.
