During a Facebook livestream, Cayetano dismissed claims that she was attempting to evade scrutiny, describing the visit as a way to observe the athletes' tune-up matches ahead of the Asian Games.

The Bureau of Immigration confirmed that both Senator Pia Cayetano and her brother, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, exited the Philippines without any hold-departure orders or derogatory records. While the National Bureau of Investigation has questioned the timing of their departure amid ongoing inquiries into the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, the senators were legally permitted to travel. The National Bureau of Investigation expects the siblings to return to Manila by the end of the weekend.
