PIAC unable to verify GH¢21m oil-funded projects in Ayawaso West
The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has reported an inability to verify GH¢21 million worth of road and drainage projects in Ghana's Ayawaso West Municipality. The watchdog stated that the Ministry of Roads and Highways failed to respond to repeated requests for project details and contractor information prior to a field inspection.
During the assessment of petroleum revenue expenditures between 2012 and 2024, the inspection team, led by Nana Soglo Alloh IV, successfully located three road projects and one Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound with help from municipal assembly officials. These included works on Mega Link Road, Nii Sai Road, and a health post at Mempeasem.
However, four major projects remained untraceable. These include a GH¢3.35 million concrete drain in East Legon, GH¢3.9 million in emergency road rehabilitation for Spintex Road and surrounding areas, GH¢1.5 million for road resealing in Ayawaso West and Ga Central, and projects for Boundary Road and the Motorway Slip Road estimated at GH¢12 million. These unverified projects were attributed to the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing and the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
